If you enjoy woodworking, chances are you have a craft workbench in your woodshop. Some woodworkers will just leave their workbench there all day, not really caring whether they use it or not. Others, though, spend quite a bit of time using their craft workbenches to make the finest of crafts. There is a secret, however, that these woodworkers know that many beginning woodworkers don’t know.
How to Craft Workbench: (2) – Set up your woodworking workbench against a wall. Then select two opposite walls with two opposite wood pieces. You should have (2) – 2 wood pieces on either side of the second wood piece. Each piece should be at least one inch away from the other one. This way when you are holding the pieces together you won’t have to worry about them rubbing. If they do run, they will probably not be close enough together to hold the next piece of wood you want to place.
How to Build a Roof: (2) – The two pieces of wood must be placed securely so they will not move while you are hammering them. Start by nailing the first piece to the first corner of the second piece of wood. Keep in mind that this may cause some squeaks because the nails may get caught between the wood. Once both pieces are nailing, use the roof 45 degree mark on the wood to mark where the first piece of wood must be placed.
How to Build a Roof: (2) – Once you have the two pieces of wood marked on the wood wall, start by nailing each piece of wood to the ground. You want to make sure that they stay put while you hammer them. Once you have all of your nails used, slowly start with the smaller wood pieces and hammer them into place. Make sure to keep them tight so that you don’t have any wobble while the roof is being assembled.
How to Build a Roof: (2) – After you have marked the roof, take your hammer and begin to tap away. Keep in mind that you want to tap on both sides of the wood. Once you have done this, take your chisel and slowly chip away at the wood until you reach the first step. When you are done chipping away, take your wood glue and slowly apply it to the shingles.
How to Build a Table: (2) – Now that your nails are down, begin by building a platform to sit your table on. Take your circular saw and cut out a circular pattern to define the shape of your table. Then take your small home improvement pliers and grab the two small pieces of wood that will be legs for your table. Make sure that you line up these pieces properly with the rest of your craft workbench and then use craft glue to attach them to the wooden frame.
How to Use Your Craft Workbench: (2) – Now that you have your legs attached to the wooden frame, pull your craftsman paint or stain from your fabric and outline the frame around the holes you’ve cut. Cut strips of your fabric that you’ll later use to cover the nails that you’ll be using. Place your nails into the slots and begin to stitch the two pieces of wood together. When you’re stitching them close, use craft glue to hold everything together.
You can do a lot with your craft workbench. Use it to make shelves for your things and use it as a buffet for your guests. It would also look great as an end table in the kitchen or even as a footrest by the window. You can also remodel your craft workbench into many other different projects. Just make sure that you keep the safety of your family and children in mind while you’re making anything with wood.
